My Schnauzer Story:

Picture
Give me time, I'll figure it out!!

On the "links to friends" are several sites that tell the history of the standard schnauzer, the following is mine:

Hello, my name is Victor Gostomski. As I have said in another part of this site, I am the owner of Schone Standard Schnauzers. The curious twist is we do not own any standards, they own us. Let me restart, from the beginning.
I have been around dogs all my life, I only discovered the Schnauzer breed in 2007 with the addition of Molly, our mini. Looking to grow the family, I wanted a dog for me. With that "want", I started a search for a Black Standard Schnauzer, and after waiting two years, Dixie entered our home in 2013. Since then, I have been introduce to the show arena, as well as adding two more Standards (one show, one pet) to our family. I have been blessed with a great local breeder (Maxine Petteway, of Von Schaden Standard Schnauzers) that has been mentoring me in the breed. While owning a animal is one thing, show your animal in the confirmation ring is a completely different world. Thanks Max!!
Since you are reading this, you are doing the same search I've done. You can never be too educated before deciding what breed fits best in your home. This, in my opinion, is especially true with the standard schnauzer. These are extremely smart animals!! You must give them a purpose, as being left to their own devices will cause a problem for YOU! I say YOU because THEY are just occupying their minds. YOU will be left cleaning up the mess.
A standard needs its' family. The beauty of this is just how much you will NEED them as well. These are very fun, loving, high energy animals. The more you challenge them, the more they love you. It can be as simple as throwing a ball, or, showing them in one of the many AKC events.
As a puppy, the standard can be challenging. When I met Max, she lovingly described them as  the "puppies from hell". Our first standard earned that title, and possibly a few names other than Dixie. It didn't take long to figure out this wasn't like our mini..... At six months, I threw up my hands and decided to make a change. That change was VERY simple, take the dog for a walk every day. The change was immediate, I had just cracked the code!!!! I gave Dixie a job... By 9 months you could see a change, 1 year was  even more noticeable. The real change came at the 2 year mark. When Dixie bodied out, she mellowed out. Now don't get me wrong, I put on shoes and she's ready to go. I'm just not worried about leaving her alone for 10 minutes, or opening a gate without a leash on her.
Now, 2 plus years later, I have 3 standards under my roof. And, I have had up to 5 here at one time! They truly are the "dog with a human brain". When you look in their eyes you can see the wheels turning. If you are ready for a partner with four legs, I believe the Standard is one of a kind. Just never think this is an animal that can be left alone in the back yard, that will not work. They need their people!
After getting Dixie, I just wasn't sure of the direction I was going to go with her. Was she going to be a pet, or was I going to go down the show road. After 6 months I decided, off to the show ring I went.... WOW, what a roller coaster ride it has been. But, a good ride! I have met many new people, and learned even more about the animals. Max has worked me in her setup, trying to teach this dog new tricks (not easy). Along this road, Schone Standard Schnauzer was born. "Schone" means  "Beautiful" in German. And Beautiful Standard Schnauzers they are!!! Looking to add a larger female to Schone,  in November of 2014, Willow was brought into our family. What a wonderful, loving, and happy animal she is! While we started to show her in the confirmation ring in 2015, 2016 is her year.
I look forward to speaking to you. Until then, thank you for stopping by.
